EIKON Renewal EIKONs Liquidation and Renewal Program offers economic empowerment to recovery and reentry individuals in Oakland, California. In Oakland, the drivers of homelessness fall most squarely on the backs of the African American community. Approximately 70% of homeless individuals in Oakland are African American, while they represent less than 30% of the citys population. The main drivers of homelessness in Oakland include but are not limited to:Insufficient housing units that are affordable to households with the lowest incomesSystemic barriers that often prevent residents who are returning home from incarceration from living with family members and/or accessing both public and private rental housing and employment opportunitiesInadequate pay and benefits for many of the jobs that are available in the community, and insufficient access to quality employment opportunities that pay wages that meet the cost of housingEnter EIKON's Empowerment CenterThrough the Empowerment Center (2505 Telegraph AVE, Oakland, CA 94612) EIKON combats the root causes of poverty and homelessness through world-class curriculum and transformational strategies for economic empowerment. EIKON recruits, trains and equips emerging leaders in inventory acquisition, refurbishing, liquidation and sales. Doing accessible work that does not require a bachelors degree participants can earn income superior to minimum wage opportunities normally reserved for reentry and renewal individuals - if profits are passed through to program participants. These jobs compete with funding levels offered by illegal and/or non-sustainable earning strategies, allowing individuals to support a child or a family in safe, life-honoring ways, with the possibility to launch their own businesses down the line. How do we do this?EIKON is the first U.S. nonprofit trained by World Vision International in the Empowered Worldview Curriculum, World Visions class-leading global poverty development curriculum. In 97 countries around the world, hundreds of thousands facing generational poverty have been trained through the Empowered Worldview Curriculum to... Discover self-identity and improve self esteem.
Develop a vision for a better future
Be empowered to live out identity and values to realize new visionThe goal of the Empowered World View Curriculum is to guide participants from the context of poverty into a journey of thriving, transformation and fulness of life. EIKON offers unhoused residents, cabin community members, and individuals on a recovery or reentry journey a loving, transformational trajectory that guides participants from a posture of marred identity into a journey of wholeness. Empowered Worldview engages people where their identity is broken down, offering trauma-informed assessment and support. The program goal is to impact the head, the heart... and the pocket.
